Turtle Beach finally moves into the 21st century : Ear Force X41 (XBOX LIVE Chat + Wireless Digital RF Game Audio with Dolby Headphone 7.1 Surround Sound)
Ok, I'll make this short and simple with just enough detail so most anyone can understand what I'm writing about.
First- About the product. I purchase this product because I wanted 7.1-5.1 surround sound, but I have to worry about not waking my family up at night. I had a pair of the older X1 wired surround stereo head set, but they were getting old. I first looked at the price and thought they were a bit much. You can get a 5.1 home unit for you TV for about the same price yes, but I tend to play when others are sleeping (kids, GF, so on) and the x1 were perfect but need to be replaced (kids tripping over cords).
Second- The hook up was really easy, just a glance and the manual and basic entertainment center knowledge and I was done in 3 minutes.
Third- Performance of the X41's and EXCELLENT! I use them with Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 mostly and that they are worth every penny. With the volume up really loud I can even hear other players when they are using Ninja Pro (something suppose to make them perfectly quite) Some other review say there is a slight buzzing sound with this model headset, but only if the game volume is REALLY HIGH. they are powered by 2 AAA batteries, that depending on play time, last 2-5 days I recommend rechargeable batteries. The wireless transmitter is powered via USB cable. Your suppose to plug it in to your Xbox 360, but all my slots were full, so i plugged it into my TV's service technichins slot and it works perfectly. Unlike my friends X4's, the sound doesn't brake up when I move around because these are RF, not IR, so you don't have to be line of sight. The range is about 30 feet, just like your wireless controller. I have friends thats have other wireless headset made by Triton and Astro, and when I tried there (and vice-versa), Turtle Beach felt better to wear, had just as good game and voice sound, and was the better deals for the money (my friends now have X41's too).
The las thing I have to note is about the transmitter itself. It works as a stand to hold the headset when not in use, it has the ability to hook up to the console (or any 5.1-7.1 fiber optic device) and really to another (like you home surround unit) and even has stereo plugs (red and white component) in slots on the back for another device (like MP3 player). It even looks on the shelf' but is also small enough to hide behind the TV. The only thing that would be nice to have on it would be if the voice chat worked with other devices (Play Station 3, PC, so). Other than that, if your thinking of buying, don't think, just buy them.
Hope people find this helpful. If your just a serious gamer who play for fun and/or to win, and/or you have to consider being quite for others in the house, this is the headset for you. It is truly worth every penny.
